Website: http://tgambrel.weebl.com
Marks Distribution:
Tests & Projects 50% of overall mark
Assignments & Quizzes 30%
Daily Warmups 5%
Final Exam 15%
Emailing Marks: I will send marks to student and parent email addresses approximately every two weeks, so you can stay current with your achievement, NHI (Not Handed In) tasks, and upcoming test dates, due dates etc.
Webpage: To access the course webpage, go to , click on Staff Info, then, under Teaching Staff, click the website link beside Gambrel, Teri . The webpage will contain an outline of daily assignments for each unit, as well as other useful info and documents for this course. The web address is: http://tgambrel.weebly.com.
~ I recommend that students BOOKMARK this site on their computers and smart devices for the duration of this semester. ~
Tests: Tests will be written at the conclusion of each chapter. Test dates will be provided at least a week in advance, we will spend two days preparing for these tests. One for completing a pre-test and the second going through and correcting the pretest.
All tests will be open note-book; however, you may only use your binder and materials, not somebody else’s. When you complete your test, you will hand in your binder with your test.
A well organized, complete binder will be invaluable to test writing. Marked quizzes should be kept together in a section of your binder, in case you choose to rewrite a test. A mark of “INC” (incomplete” will be assigned for any missed tests. A student’s report will then just show INC instead of a percentage or letter grade…until such time that the missing test(s) is written.
Test Rewrites: You can rewrite any chapter test, but you can only rewrite each chapter test once. To be eligible to rewrite, you must have finished all of your chapter assignments and have them marked, and you must have corrected the original chapter test in class or during Flex an return to me.
~ Rewrites can take place only during Flex on Monday OR during lunch on Wednesday or Friday in room 101. ~
Quizzes: Quizzes will usually be given once or twice per chapter. You cannot rewrite quizzes. Quizzes are ‘open book’, but you can only use your OWN notes and materials.
Please note: if you do better on the Unit Test than the Quizzes, your Unit Test will count for your Unit Mark. If the Unit Test mark is lower than the quizzes, an average of the quizzes and the Unit Test will be used to determine your Unit Makr.. The intent is to continue to improve understanding and have ALL Assignments and Corrections completed by the Unit Test.
Assignments: Daily assignments will be given and you are expected to complete them to the best of your ability before the next class. Make good use of the class time given for assignment completion, as you will get plenty of time to get assignments done in class quite often. Show all work, mark your assignments using the answer keys, and retry any errors.
All assignments will be evaluated at the conclusion of each chapter, on chapter test day. Sometimes, assignments will be collected individually the day after they’re assigned.
Projects: At various times throughout the course, you will be working on projects in class, and may have to spend some time outside of class to complete them, depending on how hard you work in class. Projects will be marked for completion and quality.
Daily Warmups: Almost every class day, the first 3-5 minutes will be devoted to a ‘warmup’. You must be in attendance at the start of class, and be putting effort into your warmup to get your ‘warmup mark’ for the day. If you are late or have an unexcused absence, you cannot attain your warmup marks for that day. If you have an excused absence or late, to gain credit for missed warmup marks, you must come to class Friday at lunch to do your missed warmups in front of me. This is done to help encourage attending class on time, and is worth 5% of your grade.
Binder: Your binder will carry all notes, assignments, projects, and tests. It is strongly recommended that you keep a complete, organized binder in order to use it effectively for open book tests and quizzes. I recommend using dividers and making 4 sections in your binder: (1) Introductory Info (2) Notes (3) Assignments (4) Returned Pre-Tests and Quizzes
Earning Credit for AW 11: Aside from earning a minimum of 50% for the course, in order to be eligible to pass this course, you cannot have more than 2 tasks that are ‘NHI’ (Not Handed In). You will only be able to make up two tasks on “I” day.
Thus, you should attend on time, work hard in class, and hand in work when it’s due.
Attendance & Absences: If you miss a class, you can still stay caught up by checking what section you’re missing on the assignment list, filling in your notes during Flex Time, and doing as much of the assignment as you understand. Assignments can be picked up from Room 101 during Flex and worked on. Do not get behind on the material, notes and assignments, as you will not have these for your open book tests.
If you know you will miss an upcoming class, bring a note and talk to me about what you will miss beforehand so that you can work on it early.
Notes Binder & Extra Handout / Answer Key Binder: A ‘Notes Binder’ will contain all completed notes from the course. An ‘extra handout’ binder will be available that will have extra copies of all class handouts. If you are absent, you can consult the binder for missing assignments, please take care to not lose an assignment, as I copy only what is needed for each class, so as to not waste paper.. An ‘answer key’ binder will be available that will have answer keys to worksheets. Use the binder to mark work but please don’t take any keys out of the binder.
Food, Drink, Music, Phones: It is okay to quietly consume food and drink, as long as your area is left clean. If the class is left in a mess repeatedly, then food will be banned. Music players, cellphones, or any other digital devices must be turned off and out of sight by the start of class. If you have a digital device out during a lesson, you may be sent to the office and will lose your device for the day, and maybe longer. I should not have to ask you to put your digital device away. Music MAY be allowed during the work portion of the class.
A cell phone should not be used as a substitute for a calculator.
Students will use dedicated scientific calculators during class and on all tests and quizzes.
If you have an IEP or learning resource class please inform me ASAP. Please inform me of any adaptations you may receive and support persons at ACSS that you access.
Classroom Environment:
I am available to help you in class and outside of class whenever I can. My classroom will be open for Flex and often during lunch if you need help or access to notes and handouts due to missing class. However, Flex in my classroom is not a free block and cellphones will not be allowed during FLEX, this is a work scheduled time period.
It is up to you to seek help before it becomes a problem. I strongly encourage you to ask me for help when necessary! To be successful in school, what it all really comes down to in most situations is if you decide to put enough effort into your courses.
Don’t lay blame on other factors. DEPEND ON YOURSELF FOR SUCCESS, and hold yourself accountable if you’re not doing your best. Your grade and whether you pass or fail will only affect YOU in the end, so take responsibility.
This course is a necessary credit for graduation. This semester is an excellent opportunity for you to achieve this credit. Please realize as quickly as possible that showing up to class everyday, on time, being organized, working hard, and keeping distractions at a minimum while in class (ie no digital devices) will give you the best chance at doing well in the course. Get off to a great start, and keep the ball rolling!

- If you copy an assignment, you will receive a zero for that assignment.
- If you are late, please enter the class quietly without disrupting others. If you are late often, you will miss out on many warmup marks, and hinder your learning in the course. At that time, we may meet to try to help you get to class on time.

Classroom Environment:
- Attend class regularly on time and get involved in your learning by doing rather than watching during discussions, notes and examples.
- When entering the class, have books open to the warmup before the second bell rings, so you can get started smoothly. Also have the last day’s worksheet out and ready to review.
- Show respect for your classroom, classmates, and teacher, and you will receive the same treatment in return.
- If you have a problem with the course, see me for a mature discussion on the matter, rather than complaining in class.
- Bring all necessary materials everyday.
- Please don’t use foul language in the classroom.
- Keep digital devices off and away.
- Bathroom breaks will not be a problem if they are not abused.
- Please stay in your desks and keep your books open until the bell rings. You should be working on your assignment until class ends. “I’ll do it later” or “I’ll do it in resource” are not acceptable excuses for wasting time at the end of class.
- Try to be friendly and helpful to one another so that we build a positive learning environment where everybody feels comfortable.
